He began playing junior cricket with Parkdale Cricket Club before developing his skills through Victorian Premier Cricket with Frankston Peninsula, earning a state contract with Victoria in 2011. After years of consistent domestic performances, Boland made his international debut in 2016 but had to wait until the age of 32 for his Test opportunity.
